Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town of Ó Duibh
Ó Duibh — sloinneTá baint chomh láidir sin ag an sloinne Ó Duibh le ceantar Dhún Másc go dtugann orainn an fhoirm Ghaeilge thuas a mholadh (féach 1400c ‘Ó Duibh for Cheinél cCriomhthuinn’ ag Ó hUidhrín; cf. cn Crois Uí Dhuibh (#1419165)). Níor cheart An Baile Dubh “the black town” a chur as an áireamh sa chás seo, áfach.
Is cosúil gur bf Baile Uí Dhuibh (#28512) i bparóiste Mhaigh Eanaigh atá i gceist le 1282–83 ‘the vill of Oduf’, ‘Oduf’s town’ sa chur síos ar mhainéar Dhún Másc (CDI II 466 = Inq. PM 2 II 286).
