Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the (little) ring-fort of —
Tá an fhorbairt ó -l deiridh go -n an-dhéanach agus níl aon bhaint aige leis an logainm Gaeilge. Ní léir bunús an cháilitheora ach is dócha gur ainm pearsanta nó sloinne gallda atá ann, m.sh. malairt ghaelaithe (gan urrús) ar Howell. Cf. 1424 ‘Howellstown’ faoi bf Baile Héil (#27121) i gCill Chainnigh. Cuireadh tabhall “tablet? sling?” na Gaeilge san áireamh chomh maith. Réiteach fuaime atá sa leagan Gaeilge thuas.
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
- Anseo tá tobar Toberhurragh SO < Tobar an Churraigh (?) “the well of the wet land” cf. bf Log an Churraigh.
- Trí oirthear an bhaile fearainn a ritheann 1654 ‘a watercours [sic] commonly called the Neore’, Fuer River SO [ó dheas i mbar. Bhaile Adaim] < An Fheoir (#116588) “the stream, rivulet” (féach Ó Duinnín s.v. feoir). Ní hionann an t-ainm seo agus abh An Fheoir [< Eoir]/River Nore (#67254) (CC, TÁ).
