Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
hut of (the) heap of stones?
Tá bunús an logainm seo éiginnte. Réitíonn an fhoirm mholta Ghaeilge seo leis an bhfoirm a bhreac na sapair san Ainmleabhar, 1838 ‘Bughorn’, de réir mar a thuig Ó Donnabháin an litriú .i. Bu-ghorn agus -gh- ag freagairt don fhoghar /x/. Níl aon tuairisc ar charn a bheith anseo san Fhardal Seandálaíochta, áfach (www.archaeology.ie).
D’fhéadfaí bunús eile a chur san áireamh. Féach fuaimniú 2004 /bəˈgɑːn/ agus tabhair faoi deara gur portach atá sa talamh anseo (www.epa.ie; cf. an mionainm Moanathoo SO thíos). B’fhéidir nach bhfuil sa litriú 1838 ‘Bughorn’ ach iarracht ar bogán “soft ground; little bog” a scríobh, faoi mar a bheadh Bug-horn de réir fhuaimniú Bhéarla thuaisceart Shasana.
Mionainmneacha eile ar an léarscáil:
- Moanathoo SO < Móin (an tSamhaidh?) “the bog(land) (of the sorrel??)” i ndeisceart an bhaile fearainn. Tá an dara heilimint éiginnte ach bheifí ag súil le an tsamhaidh > /əˈtuː/ i gcanúint na háite.
