Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the corner, nook of the bog(land)
Tá deighilt san fhianaise, idir na foirmeacha stairiúla de chuid an 16ú/17ú haois agus na foirmeacha ó 1729 ar aghaidh. Réaduithe soiléire atá sna tagairtí luatha béarlaithe úd, m.sh. 1601 ‘Cowlemonyne’, ar Cúil Móinín nó Cúil an Mhóinín. Dar linne gur dóichí go raibh atuiscint déanta ag muintir Ghaeilge na háite ar an logainm mar Cúil na Móna “corner, nook of the bog(land)” faoi 1729 ‘Coolenemony’ (cf. 1997 /ˌkuːlnəˈmoːniː/) ná gur imir meititéis ar logainm tar éis dó bheith béarlaithe.
