Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the lake of the small boat, commons?
Tá brí an dara heilimint amhrasach anseo; d’fhéadfadh sé gur foirm dhíspeagtha de coite, ‘bád beag’, atá ann.
Níl rian de loch le feiscint ar léarscáileanna na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis, ach féach an paiste beag d’iarsmaí lochacha (‘lacustrine-type soils’ agus ‘lake sediments’) in oirthear an bhaile fearainn ar an léarscáil cháilíocht talún ar www.epa.ie. - English
the lake of the small boat, commons?
The meaning of the second element is uncertain; it may be a diminutive form of coite, ‘small boat'.
While there is no trace of a lake on the Ordnance Survey maps, note the small patch of ‘lacustrine-type soils’ and ‘lake sediments’ shown in the east of the townland on www.epa.ie.
