Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the pasture of the green field?
Tá malartú idir /v/ agus /w/ in 1805 ‘-volen’ agus 1838 ‘-woolan’ le tabhairt faoi deara anseo (cf. nóta faoi chanúint Osraí in iardheisceart an chontae faoi par Achadh Bhó (#1412)).
‘Tulach’, ‘cnocán’ a bhíonn i gceist le mullán de ghnáth ach is minic a bhuailtear leis i logainmneacha Chúige Laighean agus gan de bhrí aige, is cosúil, ach ‘gort’ nó ‘páirc’. Níl aon chnoc suntasach sa bhaile fearainn beag seo. Tabhair tagairt 1621 faoi deara, ‘the oatefield called Clone[v]olane’. Cf. bf Coill an Mhulláin (#28803).
