Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
Tá raoire (raoireann sa tuiseal ginideach), et var., le fáil i roinnt logainmneacha luatha eile. Tagann tagairtí anuas chugainn ó chuid de na foinsí Gaeilge is sine dá maireann, ach ní léir brí don fhocal.
Is cosúil go bhfuil iarracht den bhuille faoi thuairim ar na foirmeacha Gaeilge 1475c ‘ teampull Ruighri’, 1595 ‘ Rira Mor’ agus 1608/9 ‘Ririe beag’ — an chéad cheann díobh is fearr is dócha. Tá tagairt sa Dinnsheanchas sa Leabhar Laighneach do 1160c ‘Róiriu i nÚib Falge’, ina ndéantar iarracht an logainm a cheangal le pearsa darb ainm ‘ Róiriu mac Setnai’. Déantar tagairt sa láimhscríbhinn chéanna do 1160c ‘ic Rairind in Huib Muredaig’ i gCill Dara, ainm dá ndearna bf Mullach Raoileann (#25156) le díshamhlú -r-r-n > -r-l-n.
Taispeánann bf Tom Raoileann (#55676) i gCill Mhantáin an díshamhlú céanna.
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
- Láthair eaglasta í seo cois na Bearú. Tá cur síos san Fhardal Seandálaíochta (www.archaeology.ie) ar eaglais, reilig agus iarsmaí eile eaglasta in bf Raoire Mór (#28636). Tamaillín soir uathusan tá ballán agus St. Fionan’s Wells SO, faoina ndeir Ó Caoimh in LSO I 204 ‘holy wells springing from rocks called Leac Fionáin with some white thorn bushes growing near them’ < Leac Fhíonáin “the flagstone of Fíonán”.
- Is cosúil gurb ionann an tagairt stairiúil 1622 ‘Bealaclare in Rerybegg’ CPR 540 agus Ballyclare Bridge SO, 1km éigin soir ó thuaidh uaidh seo, mionainm atá pléite faoi bf Muine Cuid (#28349).
- Anseo timpeall fós a bhí 1607/8 ‘Campis de Agheny … acha an fheich’, 1609 ‘Agheny’ CPR < Achadh an Fhéich “the field of the raven” le fáil.
