Scabhat na mBodach is a translation based on the following information: There is no handball Alley here, and therefore one presumes that it is a roadway, walkway that is referred to. 'Buffer' is attested in Hiberno-English as (1) 'boxer' (2) 'country-man' (see Slanguage, by Bernard Share, 1997, s.n. Buffer, Buff). 'Buffer' is also attested in English with the meanings 'a foolish person, dolt, fool, buffoon' or 'chap, fellow' (see English Dialect Dictionary). The word 'bodach' is at one with many of the meanings for buffer given here.
