Nóta mínithe

  • Gaeilge

the hill of limestonethe hill of Aolán (ainm pearsanta)

Tá cnocán (70') taobh thiar theas den bhaile fearainn seo in Prioryland gar don teorainn. Gaineamh agus gairbhéal aolchlochach atá i bhfo-ithir an chnocáin de réir EPA.ie. Sheasfadh sé seo amach ón chuid eile den talamh óir is í ithir ghaineamhchlochach agus lochach atá timpeall air.

D’fhéadaí gurb é an t-ainm pearsanta Aolán atá taobh thiar den dara mír sa logainm seo fosta. Cf. an sloinne Ó hAoláin (Ó Faoláin) atá Béarlaithe mar Highland.

  • English

the hill of limestone or the hill of Aolán (personal name)

There is a hill (70') to the south west of this townland in Prioryland close to the border. The subsoil of the hill is limestone sand and gravel according to EPA.ie. This would stand out from the rest of the land as the surrounding soil is sandstone and lacustrine.

Alternatively, the qualifying element of this placename could also be the personal name Aolán. Cf. the surname Ó hAoláin (Ó Faoláin) which is anglicised as Highland.
