  • Gaeilge

    the town of Hac
Hac — sloinne (< Hake, Hackett)
Is struchtúr an-chomónta i gCo. na Mí é an téarma lonnaíochta Angla-Normannach -tún (-town ní ba dhéanaí) á cháiliú le hainm pearsanta nó le sloinne. Is é an focal Gaeilge a fhreagraíonn do -town i logainmeacha den chineál sin ná baile, agus rinneadh roinnt mhaith de na logainmneacha Béarla seo a ghaelú ar an múnla baile +* *ainm. Féach na tagairtí stairiúla seo a leanas: ‘Hakketiston alias Ballyhack’ (1540), Baile hoc Ainmleabhar, scríofa le peann luaidhe (1836). Is foirm dhíspeagtha Angla-Normannach í Haket, Hackett den sloinne Sean-Ioruaise Haki (féach Reaney, A Dictionary of British Surnames); cf. Baile Hac (CC, BÁC, LG)

  • English

    the town of Hac
Hac — surname (< Hake, Hackett)
