the tillage-plot of Stiabhna?
Stiabhna — ainm pearsanta (< Estievne na nAngla-Normannach, a thug Steven sa Bhéarla agus Étienne sa Nua-Fhraincis)Tá an cáilitheoir éiginnte. Díol spéise an litriú in -u- ó 1824 ‘Capusteen’ amach. D’fhéadfaí an sloinne Gaelach seo a leanas a chur san áireamh: 1607 ‘Rory Oge O Sten … Rerrymore’ LS Uí Dhuinn 407 [= ‘O Steene’ in innéacs an LS]. Níl Raoire Mór ach 3km slí soir uaidh seo. Ní léir an bhfuil gaol ag an sloinne úd le ‘Ó Steafáin, O Stephane: a rare Leix surname’ Sloinnte Gaedheal is Gall 648 (cf. 958AD ‘Dubhdúin Ua Steafáin abb Liss Móir’ ARÉ II 678).
