"Pinkman: Eanach-Chaointe, nó Chaointighe = The marsh or moor of the ‘keening’ or lamenting. Joyce writes “Perhaps there was a legend about some tragedy, or perhaps the place was haunted by a ‘banshee’ or, as she was often called, a bean-caointe, a keening woman – the woman who wails for the dead or for those about to die. Sometimes spots had names like a last ‘keen’ or crey before arriving at the grave.” (Vol. 3 Place-names). Annaghkenie, Inquisition 1626. There are Annaghkeeny in Kiltubrid Parish… and Annaghkeenty, in Kiltoghert… They lie side by side. "
