"Pinkman: Congbháil = An establishment, a residence. Congbháil, according to Dineen, signifies a holding, habitation; an establishment, especially an ecclesiastical establishment (Compare Book of Fenagh, page 120 New Edition). And very likely this latter meaning is the one to be understood here. There is a legend, which says that this was erected here in one night. The story goest that St. Patrick visited this place, and when the inhabitants heard of his coming, they erected this dwelling for him. There is a St. Patrick’s well in the place – a fact which would seem to add credence to the story, and there is an old graveyard with some tombstones, on which are carved the Arms of some of the Breifney Chiefs. For the name, compare Conwal Parish in Co. Donegal and several núadh-congbhail, and Four Masters, AD 913. The place lies on the mountains about two miles south of Lough Melvin, and along the Glenaniff river. "
