"Pinkman: Cill-a’-Dísirt = Church of the secluded retreat. The letter ‘k’ in the English name is a corruption. (See Joyce, Place-names, Vol.1, page 324 and Vol. III). The Down Survey writes the name Killysart and Killisart [*]. And a Royal Commission Report of 1821-1825 has Kildisart-oughtragh and Killydysareightragh. Killdisert (Inquisition, 165). Díseart is borrowed from the Latin Desertum, and means a ‘desert,’ a deserted or sequestered place (Colgan). It is used to denote those spots to which the early Irish Saints loved to retire, and in which they erected their little huts or tents. Afterwards the word came to be applied to the churches erected in those places. There is an old ruined church in this townland and tradition states that it was dedicated to St. Brigid and called Cill-Bhrighde. There is a St. Brigid’s well near the ruins. "
